My report from STICCON Convention May 2008

Tuesday 05/20/08

Alex and I left Dorsten at 1.30 p.m. We've arrived Gina at 2.30 p.m. We put Gina and her luggage into the car and started our 5 hour drive to Christine and Raimund. Gina and I were nattering all the time and Alex slept well at the back seats. We talked about former Conventions and every minute we felt happier to see Vaughn again. We can't believe that we will see Vaughn the next day. Along the journey there were several brakes. At Service Station “Katzenfurt-Germany” we made a very cute picture from Tinas doggie. We were very excited to met Christine and Raimund the first time. Until then I only knew her from the “FedCon Board”. We've arrived “Zapfendorf” at 8.00 p.m and we got a very warm welcome from Christine und Raimund. First we brought our luggage to the guestrooms. After this, we walked down to the Italian Restaurant. We had a lot talked about. After dinner we signed the “Knuddelbear T-Shirt” and Gina wrote all names from the EBB Board on that.

The Bear was so cuddly we actually wouldn't to give him away anymore. I think we went to bed at 1.00 a.m. Our alarm clock rings at 5.30 a.m. I could hardly sleep… I was very nervous.

Wednesday 05/21/08

I awaked at 5.20 a.m. and I needed a moment until I realised where I am. My first thought was “Today is THE day, today I will see Vaughn again”. We go downstairs and we got a tasty breakfast. We drove away at 7.30 a.m (I think so). The weather along the journey wasn't so good. The weather became better as we've arrived Austria. Than we had arrived Italy... the other drivers were more and more aggressive. The truckers in Italy were unpredictable and very outrageous. It wasn't nice to drive in Italy. It was very demanding. But along the journey we heard ever and ever the two EBB CDs and Dreamland. Gina had already to suffer. She sat together with two absolutely Fans of Brent Spiner, but she had to survived it. At 6:45 p.m. we arrived in Bellaria and the searching of our hotel begun.

We have found it very fast and checked in. She asks us “Are you from Star Trek?” And we said “Yes, we're” She gave us the room keys and we going upstairs to our rooms. At 7:30 we met us again to dinner. We sat just 5 minutes as Vaughn coming into the room. I was so happy to see him again. I said “There's Vaughn…” and just in this moment Vaughn saw us and came to our table and we ate together. We had so much fun. After dinner we went together with Richard Arnold along the beach. Richard said after a few minutes goodbye. Smile We went together with Vaughn into Ginas room and we gave Vaughn the “Knuddelbaer”. His first reaction was “Oh, a Baby” (I think). It was a very nice evening.

Thursday 5/22/08

The alarm clock rings at 7.30 a.m. we met us to breakfast at 8.45. After breakfast we went to the convention centre. We've got our Tickets. Raimund always had to look behind curtains… so we found the main hall and the autograph room. We saw Brents table and Christine said “Let me just take a photo”.

That was very cool. After looking around we went opposite to drink a cola or coffee.

Christine and I looked around we hope to see Vaughn or Brent. But we saw nobody. After this we got to knew that Brent arrived at Friday afternoon. The food was really good but too much… On our table stand always one bottle of white and one bottle of red wine. And of course two bottles water. In the evening we met Vaughn again. We had a great time. Vaughn sung two songs.

Friday 5/23/08

On this day Christine and I was very nervous. We thought to see Brent this afternoon but unfortunately we haven't seen him. Every day we went first to Vaughns table and said short “Hello”. As usual on Fridays there was fish for lunch. After we discovered these little mini “zool squid” within our rice we decided to make a diet. On this day nothing unusual happened. We visited Vaughn on his table quite often and took a lot of time for talk. Brent was not seen on the congress centre so far and so I started to get a bad mood. Dinner time…

We had a big ice-cream that afternoon so we weren’t so hungry. Vaughn joined our table so we had a lot of fun. In the afternoon we had a little beach party. Gina and I had organized some candles, wine and beer that day. However, we were told to leave just five minutes after we sat down. So we moved on a bit and sat down right in front of the water within the sand. This time we didn't fired the candles. It was really awesome to listen to the sea and Vaughn's amazing stories. It couldn’t have been better.

Saturday 5/24/08

The Saturday began at 7:00 a.m. early in the morning. This was the DAY, MY DAY. We met at breakfast at 8:30 the fotosession with Brent started at 11 o’clock. I was totally nervous and didn't say or eat much this time. One hour later at 9:30 we walked to the convention center. From the moment we arrived I was observing the entrance all the time but no Brent appeared on the radar. I never thought about the fact, that the congress center could have a back entrance. At 10:45a.m. we began to get sad no Brent; no fotosession? Then Alex came back to us and said “guess who I saw” “WHERE?” Christine and I asked together in chorus. Just behind Vaughns autograph table was some kind of removable separating wall. Behind this wall the autograph and the fotosession were prepared. This wall wasn't closed exactly so there was a small crack left where you were able to look through. Christine and I jumped up and couldn't wait to look through that hole. Christine arrived first and starts to giggle a little as she gazed through it. Unfortunately the crack was big enough to let Brent looked out and maybe he saw us. We didn't loose any more time and queued for the session just then. Christine came along with me as my official personal translator. Wink A few moments later at 11:15 a.m. it was my turn. “Klick, Klick - DONE”.

As we left I had a real adrenalin boost.

At FedCon I was totally frightened to take a photo with Brent. But that was the aim of this journey and I was ready to take another one. “It did not hurt at all” Wink Christine couldn't decide if she should take a photo or not. Her last fotosession was only four weeks ago in Bonn on Fedcon and 50 Euro isn't cheap (a part of there amount were for some charity, I guessed on the Italian website….) in the end she decided to take another photo. This time I was her official personal translator.
Klick Klick and DONE. After a short break to take breath Raimund and Christine walked back to the hotel and Gina, Alex and I visited Vaughn. The crack was still open and Gina and I noticed that Robert Picardo was very inflexible and mostly didn't take his arm around the fan. Vaughn couldn't miss that as we stood right in front of him and he couldn't stop smiling. A few moments later the fotosession was over and Brent passed us while he left the building drooool….
Lunch Time!

We all met for lunch in the congress center. The first question Vaughn asked us was if we had taken our photo with Brent. At this time Christine and I were still not able to talk in full sentences. Whenever someone said “Brent” we start drooling an barking like silly dogs “Brent?”, “Brent?” and all have to laugh. Crazy.
At 3.30 p.m. Robert Picardo had his panel, Vaughn at 3.45 p.m.

and finally Brent at 4:00 p.m.

followed by the autograph session. Everybody on the convention got a autograph from Brent for free (included in the ticket price) but there weren't any pictures directly selled at the table. Pictures could only be bought from the convention reception. So I bought a wonderful TNG Poster from a german dealer. As we were in the queue for our autograph Richard had his auction. He wasn't very lucky for the queue ran through the main hall. So he was screaming all the time. As we finally arrived in the room for the autograph Vaughn had already left. Gina took a autograph from Robert Picardo and Christine bought the Dreamland CD from Brent with a signature of course.
Then it was my turn and I let him sign the brand new TNG poster. After we have completed our mission for that day, Christine and I went out and searched our “men”. (Must I tell you, that we had an adrenalin boost?) When we met Gina we had to tell her what had happened - just like kids tell her mother after their first day in school. In this moment Vaughn walked down the nearby stairs and heard everything. His face looked very funny. At this moment I just wanted to sink through the floor… However, I suppose he had his fun. It was time for the dinner and so we went upstairs together. After dinner we visited the costume contest. Unfortunately we haven't understood anything because it was in Italian. Nothing was explained in English. We decided to walk slowly back to our hotel…

Sunday and Monday in a few days...
